The treatment of snoring

There are different forms of disordered breathing during sleep. From simple snoring to severe syndrome of the sleep apnea (breathing pauses longer than 15 seconds), with night and daytime symptoms, and with impairment of health for the person.

This circumstance is very annoying for relatives who live with people who snore.

Sleep apnea is a potentially deadly serious breathing disorder that affects 4% of the population. Patients with untreated apnea have increased mortality rates. They are 4 times more likely to suffer accidents at work and traffic and their quality of life is reduced substantially.

The snoring and apnea occur when the jaw relaxes, it moves back and hinders the passage of breath.

We can avoid the problem in 98% of the cases by the application of specific acrylic dental splints that are placed when sleeping and that cause a milimetrically controlled movement of the jaw. These allow you to talk, drink and make movements, but it does not let the jaw to retract, preventing the collapse of airway and solving the problem.

The most effective solution

Orthoapnea is a new patented intraoral device, designed for the treatment of snoring and for the sleep apnea.

The mechanism is based on a controlled and comfortable advancement of the jaw, which increases the space in the area of the airways and it allows air to flow freely. As a result, the snoring is eliminated and the episodes of apnea are reduced and a better quality of life for patients is obtained.

The characteristics of the Orthoapnea device

  • Convenient and easy to use
  • Tailored for each patient
  • Made of biocompatible materials (titanium thermoplastic)
  • It can be easily adapted
  • When it is placed it allows normal movement and it is possible to talk, drink, cough, etc.
  • It allows you to breathe easily, eliminating the snoring
  • Its use is appropriate for people suffering from snoring and from the sleep apnea
  • It allows the lateral movement

Frequently Asked Questions about Snoring

How does the snoring occur?

During the sleep, the muscles that keep the airways open start relaxing. This makes it harder for air to pass through the pharynx. When this happens, the vibration of the soft tissues at the back of the throat produces the noise that we know as snoring.

Snoring is a common problem in couple relationships. According to one study, snorers’ bedmates lose more than an hour of sleep each night.

The lack of airflow often makes the oxygen level in the blood to decrease. Consequently, this leads to disrupted sleep patterns.

This oxygen deficiency causes a number of symptoms such as excessive sleepiness, general fatigue and depression. Excessive sleepiness, memory loss and mood changes can affect personal, work and social life of the affected person.

What is the sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition characterized by loud snoring and irregular breathing. It occurs when the soft tissue in the throat vibrates enough to not only cause loud snoring, but even lead in obstructing the airway. During these periods of obstruction, the level of oxygen in the blood can drop to dangerously low levels.

Is sleep apnea dangerous?

Yes! Sleep apnea has been linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure, myocardial infarction, and stroke. It is also associated with obesity and diabetes. In addition, since people with sleep apnea are often excessively tired during the day, they have a significantly increased risk of accidents at work or accidents in driving a car.
